Salesforce Chief Scientist Richard Socher Leaves To Launch His Own Startup

Sharing is caring!

Richard Socher has announced that he’s leaving his position as chief scientist at Salesforce to start his own company. During his four years as a senior scientist at Salesforce, Socher leads the company’s research efforts and development initiatives.

Furthermore, he also supervises the rise of Einstein cloud Artificial Intelligence (AI) services for use cases such as computer vision, natural language models, translation, and personalized CRM search results.

Richard Socher joined Salesforce after taking over MetaMind in 2016, a company he founded and managed as CEO. MetaMind is one of the few start-ups who participated in the ImageNet competition for large-scale computer vision models, which was conducted from 2010 to 2017. As a Ph.D. student at Stanford University, Socher assisted in developing the ImageNet data set.

Salesforce Research was founded in 2016 following the acquisition, and since then it has unveiled various innovative technologies like the AI Economist, a reinforcement learning and research environment for identifying tax policy, and a method for eliminating gender bias from AI models.

In a tweet, Socher said that he will continue to serve as an advisor to Salesforce.

A Salesforce spokesman said in the statement about his departure that Socher was described as “a tool to start Salesforce during his AI journey.” The spokesman did not announce further details about when Socher would leave the company or who he would appoint as the next chief scientist.
